The name of tactician Xavi has of course returned to the forefront of the headlines across all of Spain over the course of the last 24 hours.

This comes amid widespread confirmation that the former midfielder’s position in the Barcelona dugout is no longer safe.

Mere weeks on from his continuation for next season being confirmed, Joan Laporta and co. are now understood to be giving serious consideration to sending Xavi packing come the season’s close.

As much comes owing to recent comments laid out by the 44-year-old regarding his squad, and the financial situation at the club.

And, in the case of the board at the Camp Nou ultimately opting to pull the trigger, two leading candidates to replace Xavi on the bench have come to the fore.

As confirmed by Mundo Deportivo, as well as others, Rafa Márquez and Hansi Flick are the frontrunners to step in, if Xavi is dismissed.

The former boasts in-depth knowledge of ongoings at Barcelona, currently overseeing Barca Atlètic after a hugely successful playing career in Catalunya’s capital.

German tactician Flick, meanwhile, is out of work at present, but is known to be a firm favourite of Blaugrana president Joan Laporta.
