Chelsea had a bid rejected for Lopez believed to be worth €40m, and they didn’t return with any further offers for the 22-year-old.

Barcelona star Fermin Lopez speaks on Chelsea interest

It’s unclear how hard Chelsea pushed to try and sign Lopez, but it’s believed they had several conversations with his agent.

Enzo Maresca reportedly spoke to Lopez personally on more than one occasion, but it’s understood no conversations were held with Barcelona.

Barcelona’s starting point was said to be £78m for Lopez, a fee which Chelsea were unlikely to pay, but it remains to be seen if they’ll revisit their interest in future transfer windows.

Lopez is a Spain international who can play as a number ten and operate on both flanks, and he would have provided the Blues with another great attacking option.

The Spaniard has now spoken on Chelsea’s interest, but insisted his idea was always to stay at Barcelona and have success at the club.

“It’s always a compliment when there’s interest from other clubs, but the truth is, I always had the idea of staying at Barça and being able to succeed here,” he told Mundo Deportivo as cited on X.com.

Chelsea sign Facundo Buonanotte

Instead of Lopez, Chelsea surprisingly opted to sign Brighton’s Facundo Buonanotte on a season long loan, with no option to buy.
