There have been a lot of Canadians in the NWSL since its inception. Christine Sinclair has been the most notable, but others are starting to become the next Canadian star. Here are the NWSL's best Canadian players in 2025.

Kailen Sheridan

Katie Sheridan has been one of the best goalkeepers in the league for San Diego since she came onto the scene. Before the Wave, she played for Gotham for four seasons, where she established herself as a solid shot-stopper.

Sheridan has been the starting keeper for Canada as well, playing behind an experienced Canadian defense. She has good feet, allowing her to play out of the back when needed. Her experience makes her a valuable addition to any team.

Sheridan has a powerful kick, giving her the advantage to boot the ball away while under pressure. She can play precise long passes and even has one assist during her NWSL career. She has a save percentage of 77%, making her a top keeper in the league. Sheridan just hit 150 appearances for San Diego during their tie against Portland.

Sophie Schmidt

Houston Dash

Sophie Schmidt is a veteran midfielder. At 36, Schmidt is still a handful to keep up with in the midfield. Although she is not a prolific goalscorer, she is an important asset to hold down the middle of the pitch.

Schmidt has been with Houston for six seasons. Before that, she played in Germany for Hamburg and started in America with Gotham in 2014. She scored more for Frankfurt and Gotham, but now with the Dash, she plays as more of a defensive midfielder.

She is a physical player who makes her present felt. And although she hasn't contributed assists in high volume, she can thread a key pass when required. Should Houston need her in a more attacking role, Schmidt can make opportunities for her teammates or provide a finishing touch herself.

Bianca St-Georges

Utah Royals

Bianca St-Georges has been a star in the NWSL. She remains a constant threat for Utah on the wing and has a goal to show for her five starts this season. At 27, St-Georges is a dual threat, capable of providing service into the box or cutting in to take a shot on herself.

The Canadian midfielder played one season with the North Carolina Courage, where she scored three goals and had one assist. She also played with the Chicago Stars from 2021-2023. In Chicago, she scored six goals and assisted on three occasions.

St-Georges has become crucial for Utah, and they may need even more from her after a tough start to the season. Despite only being 27, she's a candidate to emerge as a leader for a squad that skews on the younger side.

Jordyn Huitema

Seattle Reign

Jordyn Huitema was touted to become a sensational young star. She made her senior debut for Canada at the age of 15, before scoring her first goal at 16. She is only 23, which still gives her plenty of time to continue making a name for herself in the NWSL and for Canada.

Huitema played three seasons with Paris Saint-Germain, before coming to the NWSL for Seattle. Huitema has a goalscoring mentality, and she's always looking for her next opportunity to score. In her first four seasons with Seattle, she has scored 11 goals, one coming this season.

She can provide assists to her teammates, making her valuable in the passing game. Huitema can see plays as they develop, which gives her a high percentage of forward passes. She is constantly trying to get the ball upfield, where she'll likely take on a shot herself.

The Canadian attacker takes a lot of shots, which shows her instinct for goal. She could become one of the strongest attackers in her nation's history since Sinclair, who likely passed on some wisdom to Huitema before she retired.

With the Reign being eighth in the table, if Huitema can increase her personal production, she just might lift her side toward the top four. She can be the focal point of Seattle's attack, alongside the veteran Lynn Biyendolo.
