The time is now for Oscar Bobb to make the right wing role his own

Oscar Bobb made an impressive start to the 25/26 season in Manchester City’s 4-nil win over Wolves at Molineux. After injury issues, namely a fractured leg he suffered after Manchester City’s FA Community Shield victory over Manchester United, wrecked his 24/25 season, Bobb looks determined to make up for lost time. Looking further ahead, there is no reason why the Norwegian international cannot make the right wing spot his own this season.

Oscar Bobb has a firm grasp of what is required to play in a Pep Guardiola team.

What stands out when watching Oscar Bobb play is how comfortable he is playing in a Pep Guardiola side. The young winger’s best attributes are ideally suited to being a first-team regular at Manchester City. Bobb’s dribbling and close control are key components of his game. Those particular abilities suit Manchester City’s possession-based game. Having been brought up in Manchester City’s academy system, Bobb has a firm grasp of how City want to play, and the best attributes of his game just further illustrate this point. That upbringing does set Bobb up for success as a Manchester City player.

In the final third, Bobb can play a defence-splitting ball and has an eye for goal. He is an intelligent player, and that makes him a valuable weapon in the Manchester City set-up. Out of possession, Bobb is adept at pressing City’s opponents, and those attributes were on full display at Molineux last weekend. The young winger pressed Wolves midfielder Andre into an error on the halfway line. He picked up the ball and drove at the Wolves defence before releasing Tijjani Reijnders to make it 2-nil in the 37th minute. That passage of play showed why Bobb has the talent and potential to make the right wing role his own this season.

The challenge is there for Bobb to become Manchester City’s first-choice right winger.

As this season progresses, the hope is that Oscar Bobb can stay fit. That is the first challenge for the young winger. If he can do that, there is no reason why he can’t become Manchester City’s first-choice winger. The Norwegian international has everything needed in his game to make that step. It is now up to him to build upon his impressive start to the new season.

There will be competition for a spot on Manchester City’s right wing. Phil Foden, Rayan Cherki and Savinho, if he stays at City, will contend with Bobb for the right wing role. But Bobb has all of the tools to beat out the competition to become Pep Guardiola’s first-choice right winger. If Bobb can become a prominent player for Manchester City this season, Pep Guardiola’s side may have an extra weapon in the final third to use that they missed so much during the 24/25 season.
