INVINCIBLE Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon was on Sportscene last night and outlined his thoughts on how the current situation at his old club was always going to happen. The goalkeeper, now back at Hearts, faced Celtic in the delayed Scottish Cup Final in December where the Quadruple Treble was won via a penalty shoot-out after the game finished 3-3 AET.

Gordon pinpoints the failure of recruitment and obviously believes the letting course and distance title winners like himself, Jozo Simunovic and Jonny Hayes leave the club in the summer was an error with none of the incoming players having really done enough to get Celtic challenging for a tenth successive title.

“I think it’s been a gradual thing. The team that was Invincible under Rodgers has been eroded away,” Gordon told BBC Sportscene.

“There’s only a few guys left. The guys that are still there have aged four or five years since then and it’s been something that’s been coming.

“Players needed to have been brought in earlier to realise what the club was all about to then step into the shoes of these players.

“It’s something that has been coming and I think the players and the more senior guys in there would probably have realised that.

“They were desperate to hang on for the Ten and make sure that happened but it really doesn’t look like that’s going to be the case now.”
