The serious problem with Antoine Semenyo as a Tottenham transfer target

Tottenham, on paper, should have one of the better attacks in the Premier League, but they just haven't been able to gel or find consistency under Ange Postecoglou. James Maddison has been a great playmaker for Spurs, and Dejan Kulusevski has been a great progressor. But Son Heung-min has declined sharply in the 2024/25 season, Brennan Johnson can't find consistency yet, and Dominic Solanke just doesn't seem to be the right fit as a No. 9.
Spurs will probably be back in the market for a striker in the summer 2025 transfer window despite making Solanke Bournemouth's record-setting sale in the summer 2024 market, but Tottenham are also after potential winger signings, especially if they can't secure Mathys Tel on another loan (or can't negotiate down his 60 million euro fee with Bayern Munich).
One potential option is Bournemouth right winger Antoine Semenyo. According to a report from Sky Sports editor Lyall Thomas, Tottenham are among the clubs interested in the Bournemouth breakout star, but Manchester United are currently seen as the frontrunners in the early battle to sign the 25-year-old forward.
Tottenham have options on the right wing, and the other two positions in the front three would be bigger priorities. Striker is clearly still a potential opening, but so is left winger if Son goes to Saudi Arabia and Tel doesn't stick around for at least another season.
Semenyo has had a great season for Bournemouth, who are much closer to European qualification than Tottenham, a Europa League semifinalist. The Ghanian international has scored eight goals with four assists this season, averaging two dribbles completed per game for the Cherries.
These are strong numbers, but they aren't anywhere near world-class, nor are they convincing enough for a Tottenham starter. If you compare his numbers to Kulu's or Johnson's, they are better, but they aren't considerably better. And Semenyo gets to be a more focal point of the attack for the Cherries. I don't think Semenyo is a better right winger than Kulusevski, and when Johnson polishes up, I don't think Semenyo will be better either.
The real kicker is the cost. After Bournemouth rinsed Tottenham on the Solanke deal last season, they are reportedly looking for more than the record-breaking 65 million pounds they got from Solanke in any Semenyo sale this summer. And with Man United apparently ready to pour more cash out, they could actually get it.
Tottenham should look elsewhere. They were too bad this season and have too many needs to sink 70 million pounds into a forward who may not end the season with 10 goals and 5 assists and doesn't fill one of the club's priority needs. Semenyo is another ill-advised transfer just waiting to happen like Solanke was last summer.
