“The right thing” – Gio opens Rangers door for John Souttar

GVB, again, has inched closer to confirming Rangers are trying to secure John Souttar now by admitting the club will sign him immediately if it’s the ‘right thing to do’.

Rangers’ manager opened up the possibility of the Hearts man crossing the country this January around a week ago when he could only say that ‘in this moment’ Souttar wasn’t joining this month, but of course in doing so failed to rule out that such conditions could change any ‘other’ moment.

And that possibility has increased now with the manager’s concession that if paying Hearts what they want and bringing the 25-year old to Ibrox is the ‘right thing to do’ then Rangers will do it.

Of course, ‘right’ means right for Rangers, and let’s face it, we’re a bit short on fit defenders albeit it’s nice to have Leon Balogun back. The options at the rearguard are now Goldson (for now), Bassey, and the big Nigerian, with Helander still not ready.

So another body would certainly be welcome and give Gio a bit of slack at the back and much-needed depth.

It seems like all Rangers have to do is match the £500K-£600K Hearts want and Souttar will be coming.

It just depends on whether Ibrox chiefs consider such action to be ‘right’ for the club.

We’ll see inside 5 days.
