Leeds United reportedly have an interest in signing Norwich City striker Josh Sargent this summer, with Daniel Farke keen on a reunion with the USMNT attacker.

Darren Wincoop has claimed that Sargent will be on the move this summer after Norwich's failed promotion attempt, whilst a report from The Sunday Mirror (19/0, p70) claims that Leeds are one of a number of clubs interested in the striker.

Farke signed him for the Canaries for £8 million from Werder Bremen in August 2021 and the striker has developed well in the second tier since then. He has netted 16 goals in 30 appearances in all competitions this season and enjoyed the best goal-scoring form of his career so far under now ex-boss David Wagner, despite an ankle injury earlier in the season that ruled him out for four months.

The Whites now face Southampton in the play-off final on May 26, with the futures of their own players and future transfer targets in the balance, based on what happens on the day at Wembley. It is likely that Leeds would only make a move for Sargent if they do get promoted back to the Premier League, but it is not set to come cheap with his contract running until 2028.

The report also states that there is plenty of other competition for the 24-year-old's signature, including Premier League trio Bournemouth, Brentford and Fulham, perhaps highlighting the importance of Farke's men to secure top-flight status for 2024/25.

FLW’s Leeds United fan pundit Kris Smith spoke to us and gave his reaction to the links to the Norwich City striker:

"If we do get promoted, we absolutely do need at least one striker, maybe even two.

"With Josh Sargent, I do think he is the right profile for a side in the bottom half who are looking to survive.

"He's great at leading the line, akin to what we've seen from Patrick Bamford; but he's far more athletic, and far more consistent, even if he has had his own injury issues this season. "We need someone who can just hold their own up front, as a number nine. "Especially on the counter-attack, and Sargent has proven that is his strength, really. "Farke knows all about it and all about him. "Having said this, I wouldn't be totally pleased if we get promoted and he's our main striker target. "You ideally want an absolute difference maker that can keep Leeds up on his own.

Leeds are unlikely to spend ridiculous amounts of money throughout their side, but perhaps one or two big-money signing will be sought. If they are to upgrade in any area with a mega-money signing, then it's likely to be an attacking player.

The Whites have plenty of depth and differential attackers out wide, but a centre-forward of Sargent's quality would potentially be the difference in survival or the drop. He has undoubtedly improved from his last stint in the top-flight, but as Smith alludes to, though - Sargent is perhaps in the bracket just below the one you want to invest in.

A team like Leeds should not blow their budget on one area this summer, but attacking players who are crucial in big moments can be the difference-makers between survival and the drop. They could pay a little extra for a higher calibre of player if they are promoted, who could have a transformative impact on Farke's side.
