Nottingham Forest decided not to sign Dean Henderson this summer due to doubts over his fitness, the Athletic have revealed.

The goalkeeper was on loan at the City Ground last season from Manchester United and made 20 appearances for the Reds.

However, Henderson hasn’t played a game since January after tearing his thigh taking a goal-kick against Leicester. The injury required surgery and ended his season.

According to the report, Forest were unsure of the severity of the problem and after doing their due diligence, they weren’t convinced that Henderson would come through a rigorous medical examination.

Henderson has now signed for Crystal Palace while Steve Cooper has picked up both Matt Turner and Odysseas Vlachodimos instead.
