Renato Marin, the Giallorossi’s third goalkeeper and a promising young footballer, will leave Roma at the end of the season to move to PSG when his contract expires.

Today’s edition of Il Romanista reveals the background to his farewell, which is fundamentally linked to the bad relationship he had with former CEO Lina Souloukou.

Brought to Italy by Tiago Pinto, when the Greek was still in charge of Olympiakos of his friend Marinakis (who has now brought her with him to Nottingham Forest), Renato had signed a three-year contract with Roma at the federal minimum (€1,400 per month).

The club had also committed to paying rent for the youngster and his mother, who moved from Brazil to join him in Italy just weeks after his move. Things were going well initially, however everything changed in April 2023 Souloukou was appointed as the club’s new CEO.

In a vast cost-cutting operation, Lina also included Marin’s house rent in the cuts, which significantly damaged the relationship between the parties.

As a result, Marin quickly accepted a contract offer from Paris Saint-Germain in January prior to the expiry of his deal with the capital club in June.

Though, Roma technical director Florent Ghisolfi attempted to repair the situation, nearly matching the contractual offer of €600,000 per season. However, Marin rejected the proposal.
