The real reason behind Mourinho and Pogba's training ground bust-up

On the day after they were dumped out of the Carabao Cup on penalties at the hands of Derby County, footage emerged via Sky Sports of what appeared to be a frosty encounter between the Red Devils boss and the club’s record signing.

Sky then went one step further and employed a lip-reader, who deduced that Mourinho appeared to be unhappy with an Instagram post made by Pogba the previous night and was airing his grievance to John Allen, the club’s media officer.

This is the Instagram post in question, in which Pogba can be seen laughing and joking with United team-mates Andreas Pereira and Luke Shaw in the stands at Old Trafford while the Derby game is still going on.

But the Guardian – presumably acting as a conduit for the club – have now added a very important detail to the story.

According to them, Mourinho was angry that Pogba’s Instagram post was made at 10:25pm as it led him to believe that the Frenchman was in some way amused by his side’s defeat.

But Pogba’s video was actually shot an hour before and only posted later due to an issue with the wifi in the stadium. In the training ground footage, the World Cup winner appears to make this argument to Mourinho, at which point media officer Allen is called back into the conversation and the issue is resolved.

So that’s all there is to it. Move along people, nothing to see here.

Until next time …
