Bukayo Saka’s brilliant season continued at the weekend after the winger starred during Arsenal’s win at West Ham.
Saka created the opening two goals as Arsenal scored five times before half-time at the London Stadium, in the process becoming the first player in Europe’s top five leagues to reach 10 assists this season.
The 22-year-old has his sights set on the Premier League’s Playmaker Award in 2024/25, though there are several names hunting him down.
From familiar faces to some of the season’s surprise packages, we’ve looked at the Premier League players with the most assists this season.
Bruno Fernandes has found his groove this season with the Manchester United captain hitting a purple patch in recent weeks. In the seven games in all competitions since Erik ten Hag’s dismissal, Fernandes has scored four goals and laid on four assists. The Portugal midfielder registered two assists against Everton at the weekend to make it five for the season. Magnifico.
Fernandes’ club teammate also joined him on five assists at the weekend. Amad Diallo was electric against Everton to set up goals for Marcus Rashford and Joshua Zirkzee. After struggling for minutes under Erik ten Hag, he looks reborn. Recent displays in an unfamiliar wing-back role have been hugely encouraging.
Mikkel Damsgaard had been written off in some sections after an underwhelming first two years at Brentford. This season, the Dane has been a delight to watch and has provided a reminder of his class. The 24-year-old has five league assists in 11 starts and is purring as part of Thomas Frank’s midfield.
No player in the Premier League has been involved in more goals (47) than Cole Palmer since his Chelsea debut.
The quality oozes out of the 22-year-old, who has started his second season at Stamford Bridge with a bang. It’s eight goals and six assists in 13 appearances for Palmer, who is among the early favourites for the PFA Player of the Year award.
Mohamed Salah is inevitable when it comes to impacting games and the Egyptian international continues to be Liverpool’s chief difference maker. He’s scored 11 times and created seven more in the Premier League this season, positioning him second for both the Golden Boot and Playmaker awards as things stand.
Against Manchester City this weekend he scored and assisted in the same Premier League game for the 36th time – a Premier League record he now shares with Wayne Rooney.
Bukayo Saka is the first player in Europe’s top five leagues to reach 10 assists this season, following a brilliant start to the season at Arsenal. Saka’s dangerous deliveries have helped Arsenal become the best set-piece team in the Premier League over the last two campaigns. He’s already just one assist from matching his best-ever Premier League return (11 in 2022/23).
