The only positive thing from Barcelona’s recent bad form | OneFootball

Looking at Barcelona’s recent run of form, it’s difficult to find anything truly positive. The situation is quite complicated on all fronts and Ronald Koeman will have a tough time getting anything out of it. However, there’s a silver lining in every dark cloud, as they say.

For the Catalans, that silver lining comes in the form of an 18-year-old jewel, Pedri. Regardless of whether they win or lose, the youngster from the Canary Islands is still shining. Of course, we cannot really expect him to drag this team by himself but just seeing him perform week in, week out must feel good.

At the moment, with the team in a heavy transitional phase, this means the world for the club’s future. After all, while this season may not be salvageable anymore, we have to look ahead. And with Pedri at the club and still improving, there is still a light at the end of the tunnel.

He is not the only one either. The likes of Ansu Fati, Riqui Puig and Ronald Araújo are right behind him and could be equally as important. But with Fati’s and Araújo’s injuries and Puig’s lack of palpable game time, it was Pedri who kept us hopeful. And he still does.

Who knew that in the sea of huge star signings, it would be a kid from Las Palmas that keeps making the difference on the pitch? But that was always the Barcelona way, wasn’t it? The youngsters helping the club make strides into the future and reigniting the flame of an otherwise heavily disjointed team.

His brilliance was once again noted against Cádiz CF the other day. Despite most of the squad failing to rise up to the occasion and make use of Atlético Madrid’s stutter, Pedri was exceptional once more. The most promising thing, however, might be his relationship with Lionel Messi.

Often we say that the players’ futures at the club are defined by how well they co-exist with Leo on the pitch. And in that regard, there’s not many better than Pedri. The youngster is someone Messi trusts and admires, which is crucial for their connection in games.

Against Cádiz, the two were often linking up and making things happen but it was sadly not to be. Of course, it was Pedri who won the penalty for Barcelona and it was once again him who gave his all.

We can only hope that the rest of the squad steps up and does their part. Pedri may be a diamond in rough but he will need some help from his team as well.

Can they do it though? Barcelona are running out of time in 2020/21 so they better get to work now before it’s too late.
