So that’s it! The Euro 2020 group stages have concluded and 16 teams progressed to the knockout round.
Here’s who impressed us early on …
His domestic future remains unresolved (Paris awaits) but Donnarumma was imperious in goal for Italy, who finished the group stages top without conceding.
Frank de Boer insisted on using wing backs in his system and Dumfries has excelled in that position – scoring twice and assisting once in some great performances.
It wasn’t just Italy who kept three clean sheets – but England too – and Stones was central to that. He was consistently secure amid rotation from Gareth Southgate.
Made the dramatic swap from Les Bleus to La Roja and hasn’t looked back. Was commanding, showed strong distribution and even scored against Slovakia.
Was solid throughout the group stages but one specific performance rustled our jimmies. The Atalanta wing-back was amazing against Russia and deserved his goal.
The breakout star of the tournament, Locatelli has continued where he left off with Sassuolo and continues to shine for Italy. We loved his brace against Switzerland.
It’s been said before, but Pogba plays with a flow and freedom that we don’t see at Manchester United. Some of his passing has been incredible – including that Benzema assist.
Who expected the Netherlands to be this fun? We certainly didn’t and Wijnaldum has been their heartbeat, captain fantastic, with rounded performances and goals.
Missed the first game through injury, but De Bruyne has made his impact with two brilliant performances against Denmark and Finland.
What a season this man is having. Lukaku just had his most prolific campaign with Inter, won Serie A and is now leading Belgium with three goals.
You can’t stop this man scoring goals. His overall influence in games is waning, but his attacking prowess remains faultless and he’s a clear golden boot contender.
