It took over a year to get there, but Bayern Munich were officially crowned Champions League winners on Sunday.

But who were the standout performers in 2019/20? We’ve sat down and put them into a star-studded 4-3-3 formation.

Here’s who made the cut

GK: Manuel Neuer (Bayern)

It looked like he was finished two years ago, but Manuel Neuer is back and ageing like a fine wine.

His presence instantly provides security and calm, with his three saves – from MbappĂ©, Neymar and Marquinhos – proving crucial in the final.

RB: Joshua Kimmich (Bayern)

That sound you hear is a single tear rolling down the face of Philipp Lahm. His regen has arrived.

Kimmich is the model of consistency, technically gifted, world class in two positions and he even assisted Kingsley Coman’s winning goal.

CB: Thiago Silva (Paris Saint Germain)

After eight successful seasons, leaving PSG as a losing finalist was far from ideal for Thiago Silva.

But his performances were genuinely outstanding throughout the tournament and even at 35, will be impossible to replace.

CB: Dayot Upamecano (RB Leipzig)

RB Leipzig were surprise semi-finalists this season but with Upamecano marshalling their backline, we shouldn’t be too surprised.

The 21-year-old is everything you want a modern centre back to be: quick, confident in possession and strong in the air. Set for the top.

LB: Alphonso Davies (Bayern)

If you’re still a teenager, have eight Champions League appearances and have won the tournament – put your hands up.

Just Davies then? His breakthrough at left-back has been absurd, with Hansi Flick utilising his marauding attacking qualities perfectly.

DM: Marquinhos (PSG)

Having initially started his career as a centre back, Marquinhos’ transition to midfield has been completely seamless.

He provides tenacity and strength to the middle, while also boasting underrated technique and vision – such a well rounded player.

CM: Thiago (Bayern)

In an increasingly physical and frantic modern game, players like Thiago prove that breaking lines is still an art form.

Dropped some incredible mini-tournament performances and he essentially ran the final, despite his future being away from Bayern.

CM: Houssem Aouar (Lyon)

Lyon were another surprise semi-finalist and who were they lead by? A 21-year-old academy graduate living his dream.

Aouar is the definition of silk, technique and ball carrying ability, but his goal and four assists also hint at improving end product too.

RW: Serge Gnabry (Bayern)

Usually Lionel Messi would be occupying this spot, but Gnabry deserves his moment to shine after proving decisive.

He scored nine goals – including brilliant braces against Chelsea and Lyon – as well as providing two assists. A complete winger.

LW: Neymar (PSG)

Yes, he underwhelmed in the final, but watch Neymar against Atalanta and his quality practically smacks you in the face.

When PSG need to create something they give him the ball. He ghosts past players, boasts supreme vision and the Brazilian deserves credit.

ST: Robert Lewandowski (Bayern)

As if this spot was going to anyone else. Lewandowski was the best player in Europe this season and it wasn’t even close.

The 32-year-old directly contributed to 20 goals (15G, 5A) in ten appearances, with his goals central to Bayern winning the competition.
