Chelsea have just beaten Fluminense in the Club World Cup semi final, and it’s good news all round.

New man Joao Pedro bagged a brace and the Blues looked really comfortable in the game as they saw off a second team of battling Brazilians in a row to put themselves into a final where they’ll face either Real Madrid or PSG.

But no game goes off without a hitch, and the scare in this game came as late as the 93rd minute. Moises Caicedo, who was back in action today after a long break (by his standards) following his suspension for the game against Palmeiras, looked in agony as he rolled his ankle.

For a while he was down and looked sure to be taken off, but after a long session of treatment he did play on for a while before the final whistle. There was no stretcher and no crutches – not yet, anyway.

Playing on a good sign – but no guarantees for Caicedo

The fact that Caicedo played on doesn’t guarantee anything sadly. It’s probably swelling up like a balloon right now.

The medical staff clearing him to play on means it’s not torn or seriously damaged, but even then, a bad sprain will easily rule him out of Sunday’s final.

They will be getting him in the ice bath as soon as they can and hoping he recovers quickly. Whether it’s the Spanish or the French giants we face, we’ll need Caicedo at his best if we want to stand a chance.

We will find out more from Enzo Maresca in his post-game press conference, but we suspect even in the best case this will be touch and go.
