Real Madrid are actively planning for the future, and one of the key areas they are looking to strengthen is the left-back position.

According to reports from Fichajes, identifying a new full-back has become a priority for the club as they aim to maintain a high level of competitiveness across all competitions.

While the team remains focused on securing silverware this season, the sporting directorate is already working behind the scenes to put together a strong squad for the next campaign.

There are not many candidates

Despite having existing options within the squad, Real Madrid are determined to bolster the flanks to enhance depth and ensure greater balance in defence.

The initial plan was to sign Alphonso Davies, as he was seen as the ideal candidate to fill the role for the long term. However, his contract renewal with Bayern Munich has made that possibility far more complicated.

With that avenue now closed, the club is assessing alternative options while remaining open to any potential market opportunities that may arise.

Although they are not looking to make excessive financial commitments, they are prepared to act if the right opportunity presents itself.

Interestingly, they do have a certain Miguel Gutierrez of Girona in sight, but the club has not made a firm decision yet.

The current options

Currently, the left-back position is occupied by Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia. Mendy is well-regarded for his defensive abilities, but his contributions in attack leave much to be desired.

Garcia, on the other hand, is more effective going forward but does not provide the same level of defensive solidity.

Real Madrid are in search of a player who can offer a well-rounded skill set, contributing both defensively and offensively while excelling in one-on-one duels, which are crucial in modern football.
