The one good thing to come from Chelsea’s poor transfer planning

Chelsea will lose Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen this summer, that is now certain.

Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso are likely to join them, and that’s just from the defenders. In total, we could be talking about 5 or 6 first team squad members on the way out.

That could be a disaster – if we don’t replace them well, it means we’ve just lost half a team and will get minimal money in return.

On the other hand, it could be a defining moment in Thomas Tuchel’s time at the club. A squad that has been assembled in a higgledy-piggledy way under numerous managers will suddenly have his stamp all over it, assuming he gets to sign 4 players to replace those going.

Of course they will need time to settle in – and we can’t expect each of them to be a hit – but given the faith we have in his ability, there is certainly an upside to having him oversee such an impressive turnover.
