James Milner continues to defy the the norm when it comes to Premier League longevity. The Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder is into a record-extending 24th campaign in the Premier League and has no plans to slow down just yet.
The veteran scored from the penalty spot during Brighton’s 2-1 win over Manchester City on Sunday, equaling from 12 yards as the Seagulls secured a comeback win.
Milner’s goal was his first since joining Brighton from Liverpool in 2023 and a welcome moment after missing much of last season through injury. It was a first goal for Milner in the Premier League since 2019/20 and one that catapults the midfielder into the list of the oldest Premier League goalscorers.
The 39-year-old – who is also closing in on the Premier League’s all-time appearance record – moves up to second on the list, behind only ex-Portsmouth forward Teddy Sheringham.
The latter remains the only player to have scored a Premier League goal after their 40th birthday. Could Milner, who celebrates that birthday in January, match that feat?
