The numbers that make Isco’s to be in Spain squad for Euro 2024

Soon enough, Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente will name his 26-man squad for Euro 2024. The vast majority of players have already been decided upon, but with the squads increasing from 23, there are more options for the 62-year-old to choose from.

An area of focus in recent months has been Spain’s midfield options. Gavi is ruled out with injury, while Pedri has been struggling with his own fitness problems, but besides that, there is still some uncertainty. Rodri Hernandez, Pedri (if he’s fit), Martin Zubimendi, Fabian Ruiz and Mikel Merino will be nailed, but the others are up for debate.

Isco Alarcon has not been in any squads this season, despite having had an outstanding campaign for Real Betis. That places him on the back foot to be called up, although Marca have presented the case for the 32-year-old to be on the plane.

In terms of Spain’s other midfield options, Isco has scored the most goals (7), has had the most shots (46), completed the most successful dribbles (68) and also been fouled the most (74). He’s also completed 1257 passes, second only to Zubimendi.

Isco also excels in defensive statistics too, having blocked the most shots (18). He is second is duels, behind Merino, and also ranks third in tackles (37) and ball recoveries (120) – not bad for an attacking midfielder.

It remains to be seen whether Isco has done enough to convince de la Fuente to call him up for Euro 2024, although it would be something of a travesty if he wasn’t wearing the Spain jersey in Germany.
