Liverpool completed one of the most expensive transfers of all time on Monday as the Alexander Isak saga came to a close late in the summer window.

Isak finalised his move to Merseyside on Deadline Day, joining the Reds from Newcastle United in a British transfer record deal.

Liverpool have paid a fee of £125m for the Swedish striker, who eclipses new teammate Florian Wirtz as the most expensive player in Premier League history. The Reds had made Isak their leading transfer target, following a prolific period for the forward at St James’ Park.

Isak scored 62 goals in 109 games for the Magpies, including 23 in the Premier League last season. That return saw Isak finish as runner-up to Mohamed Salah for the top-flight’s Golden Boot award.

The mega-money deal still trails behind the current world transfer record, however, set by Neymar’s £198m move from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain in 2017.

However, Isak enters the top five for football’s biggest-ever deals, with the top 10 dominated by Premier League purchases.

Including all potential add-ons, we’ve listed the most expensive football transfers in history down below.
