On Real Madrid’s long list of priorities ahead of the summer transfer window is the recruitment of a new defensive midfielder who can, in part, bring back the stability Toni Kroos brought to the table.
Aurelien Tchouameni’s stocks as a picot have fallen to an all-time low in recent weeks and it is clear that the club see the need to reinforce the department with a more well-rounded option who can also orchestrate the play.
Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi, thus, is one who draws the attention of the Real Madrid offices as an able alternative.
The 25-year-old midfield star has a buyout clause of €60 million and has emerged as an attractive prospect for clubs across the globe, Real Madrid included.
As revealed earlier this week, however, Los Blancos do not see him to be an absolute priority and the final decision rests on a number of factors, two of which Real Madrid Confidencial bring out.

As relayed by the Spanish outlet, the first factor Los Blancos are eyeing with respect to Zubimendi’s future is the potential availability of a better player for a better price next summer.
Also playing a role, however, is the fact that they wish to improve the Spanish core in the dressing room which is a factor that plays in Zubimendi’s favour.
The Merengues, after all, have seen a steep fall in terms of Spanish representation in recent years and the injury to Dani Carvajal leaves the team with virtually no mainstay in Luis de La Fuente’s squad.
Signing Zubimendi would mean the team rakes in one of the heartbeats of the national team and thus improves its prominence on that front.
A decision is far from close and will depend on how the positives and negatives weigh up against each other. The coming months will be crucial.
