Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker is set to miss around six weeks with a hamstring injury.
Alisson was forced off during the 1-0 win at Crystal Palace last weekend and Liverpool have now learned the extent of his issue.
The 32-year-old will not return to action until after November’s international break. It’s a big blow for Arne Slot who has enjoyed a dream start to his reign, with nine wins from 10 games across all competitions – the best ever start by a Liverpool manager.
Alisson’s absence is also untimely given Liverpool’s upcoming schedule. The Reds face a daunting run of fixtures over the next few weeks, which includes clashes with Chelsea, RB Leipzig, Arsenal, two games with Brighton in league and cup, Bayer Leverkusen and Aston Villa. Real Madrid also arrive at Anfield in the Champions League in late November, ahead of a huge clash in the Premier League with Manchester City on December 1.
Caoimhín Kelleher, who has expressed his desire to become a first-choice goalkeeper, will deputise in place of the Brazil international. The 25-year-old made 26 appearances in all competitions last season. Kelleher missed the clash with Palace through injury, with Vítězslav Jaroš introduced as Alisson’s replacement for his Liverpool debut.
