Manchester City summer signing Jeremy Doku has been tipped to reach the heights of Brazilian legend Neymar.

The 21-year-old completed a move to the Etihad Stadium from Stade Rennais for £55.5 million in August 2023, becoming one of four additions to Pep Guardiola’s first-team squad, joining alongside Mateo Kovacic, Josko Gvardiol and Matheus Nunes.

Doku opted to move to Manchester City despite major Premier League interest, with the Belgium international rejecting a number of clubs, including Tottenham and West Ham.

The winger scored a brilliant goal against the Hammers at the London Stadium in September, having made his Manchester City debut against Fulham at the Etihad Stadium a fortnight earlier.

Doku has scored four goals for the Sky Blues so far this season and made a total of 31 appearances to date, including 14 Premier League starts and six UEFA Champions League showings.

The forward has been on the scoresheet most recently against Huddersfield Town, and could feature against England at Wembley Stadium on Tuesday evening, when Belgium face the Three Lions in an international friendly in north London.

Doku’s appearance at Wembley could be the first of four for the 21-year-old this season, with Manchester City still competing in both the Champions League and FA Cup – and the final’s of both competitions are set to be staged at the iconic London landmark.

Belgian teammate Thomas Meunier believes that Doku is set for a glittering career, and tipped the young forward to emulate the successes of Brazil legend Neymar.

“Doku has so much talent, and so much self-confidence too,” he told the Mirror.

“He has not reached the level of Neymar yet. Neymar is the only player who could make me wince on the pitch. I don’t get a headache playing against Doku. Well, not yet! But I really don’t rule it out that he will reach that level one day.

“I was always calm and quiet as a young player. This kid Doku and Bakayoko don’t know the word stress.

“They look as if they have been at the top level for years. That is not a bad thing. In training, we played a game and Bakayoko was telling me where to run. That’s class.”

Doku will be in contention to start Manchester City’s Premier League title clash with Arsenal following the international break, with the Gunners traveling to the Etihad Stadium next Sunday afternoon.

Pep Guardiola will be hoping fellow Belgian Kevin De Bruyne will be available for the clash, with the 32-year-old missing the March internationals due to a groin problem.
