A fresh insight into the situation of January Sevilla signing Hannibal Mejbri has been provided on Sunday.

The name of midfielder Hannibal has of course taken its place front and centre in the Spanish media headlines across the weekend to date.

This comes after the youngster – fresh off his loan arrival from Manchester United – was publicly called out by head coach Quique Sánchez Flores.

Amid reports that a training ground bust-up with teammate Mariano Díaz had sparked a major internal conflict in Andalusia, Quique informed the media:

“After being with him, talking to him and having seen his first minutes in Girona, we are going to give him the necessary space to understand where he is, that he is at Sevilla and what it means.”

This statement was met with the widespread understanding that Hannibal, in turn, had been excluded from matchday duties by Sevilla, as punishment for his actions.

It therefore only caused further confusion when, in fact, the Tunisian was included on the bench for the Nervionenses’ La Liga meeting with Osasuna earlier today.

So, amid the ongoing bewilderment surrounding Hannibal’s situation, what exactly is going on behind the scenes at The Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium?

Well, as alluded to above, an insight into precisely that has today been forthcoming.

The info comes courtesy of Fabrizio Romano, who, speaking to Caught Offside, has revealed that whilst ‘tension’ was indeed brewing between Hannibal and some of his new teammates, the issue has since been put to bed, after a discussion between the 21-year-old and boss Quique:

“My understanding is that it is not a specific incident. There was some tension in training between some players and Hannibal too, but everything has been clarified and Hannibal spoke directly to the manager to keep the situation quiet.

“It’s all good now, though it’s obviously not easy in general at Sevilla because their season has been horrible. They remain just a point above the relegation zone in La Liga.”
