Sheffield United will not finalise Kieffer Moore's move to Wrexham until they bring in a replacement.
Sheffield United are not willing to sanction Kieffer Moore’s move to Wrexham until they have finalised a replacement for the striker.
The Red Dragons are looking to strengthen following their third successive promotion, as they now look to make their mark in the Championship.
It’s no secret that they are tracking Moore, with the Welsh international on their radar as they value his experience and ability at this level.
It appears the 32-year-old is a priority for Wrexham, with recent reports stating they would pay up to £4m for the target man, as well as exceeding his wages, which are rumoured to be around £30,000 a week.
So, it would be a significant outlay for the club, so it’s natural that Wrexham want to close this as soon as possible, with the Championship opener against Southampton in eight days time.
However, in a fresh development, journalist Alan Nixon has revealed that the move is on hold for now.
Even though a fee is agreed, and personal terms with Moore are sorted, the update states that the Blades aren’t willing to sign off on the transfer until they have a new striker through the door, amid links to former player Oli McBurnie.
It’s frustrating for Wrexham that this hasn’t gone through yet, as Phil Parkinson will want his squad complete at the earliest possible stage.
Of course, it would also benefit Moore, as he will need time to integrate with his new teammates, but the reality is that you can understand Sheffield United’s stance.
Even if they are willing to let Moore leave, they know he would still play a part if he stuck around, so they don’t want to leave themselves short in a key area of the pitch.
But, this deal is still highly likely to go through as everything has been agreed, and Moore is clearly open to the challenge of joining Wrexham.
Some will feel it’s a big investment for someone of Moore’s age, but his physicality and experience mean he will help the team in the short-term, and he could be ideally suited to Parkinson’s style of play as he can bring others into play and is good with his back to goal.
