The injury situations at Premier League clubs ahead of end of season run-in | OneFootball

The Premier League season is soon set to conclude but there is still plenty to play for before the campaign comes to an end.

Arsenal sit a point ahead of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League, but the current champions have a game in hand on Mikel Arteta’s side.

Liverpool’s recent run of form looks to have ended their title dreams in Jurgen Klopp’s last season but European spots are still up for grabs, with Spurs seven points off Aston Villa who are fourth but with two games in hand on Unai Emery’s team.

Here are the injury and illness doubts among the top seven…

Arsenal

Jurrien Timber

Arsenal are almost at full strength heading into the final three games of the season as they look to win a first Premier League title since 2004. Jurrien Timber returned to action for the Under-21s recently and could return to first-team football before the end of the campaign.

Manchester City

Ederson, Phil Foden, Ruben Dias

Manchester City were dealt a blow in their win over Nottingham Forest when goalkeeper Ederson was forced off at half-time with a shoulder injury. Boss Pep Guardiola said afterwards that the injury “doesn’t look good” but reports suggest the goalkeeper will be back before the end of the season. Foden and Dias, meanwhile, have both been struggling with illness but the hope is that they will both be back for the weekend’s game with Wolves.

Liverpool

Joel Matip, Thiago, Diogo Jota, Conor Bradley

Long-term absentees Joel Matip and Thiago are not expected to return before the end of the season while Diogo Jota’s injury-hit season suffered another blow recently when he picked up a knock in the win over Fulham in April. Boss Jurgen Klopp is hoping that the attacker would be back before the end of the campaign, while defender Bradley has continued to miss out with an ankle problem. Klopp said ahead of West Ham that both are “progressing well” so they could be back in action soon.

Aston Villa

Boubacar Kamara, Emi Buendia, Tyrone Mings, Jacob Ramsey, Alex Moreno, Nicolo Zaniolo, Emi Martinez, Youri Tielemans

Aston Villa are facing significant injury problems as they look to cap off a memorable season with a surprise top-four finish. Kamara, Buendia, Mings and Ramsey will be out until beyond the end of the season. Unai Emery was dealt two further injury worries when goalkeeper Martinez and midfielder Tielemans were both forced off with injuries in the draw with Chelsea and no diagnosis on their problems has been revealed yet. Zaniolo and Moreno are carrying minor issues and Emery is hoping to have both back soon.

Tottenham

Destiny Udogie, Fraser Forster, Ryan Sessegnon, Timo Werner, Manor Solomon, Ben Davies, Oliver Skipp

Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou revealed two further injury blows ahead of their game with rivals Chelsea, with Timo Werner and Ben Davies both set to miss the rest of the season. Oliver Skipp has also picked up a knock but is expected to be back before the season ends. Udogie, Sessegnon, Solomon and Forster will not, however.

Manchester United

Tyrell Malacia, Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane, Luke Shaw, Anthony Martial, Victor Lindelof, Marcus Rashford, Jonny Evans, Willy Kambwala, Scott McTominay

Erik ten Hag and Manchester United have endured a nightmare with injuries this season and are still without several of their key men. ten Hag is hoping to have Shaw and Martinez back in action before the end of the season, while Lindelof and Varane could also be back before it ends. It is unclear when fellow defenders Evans and Kambwala will be back but Malacia is not expected to return before the campaign draws to a close.

Further forward, Rashford has missed the last two games but is not expected to miss the rest of the games, while Scott McTominay is a doubt for their next game against Crystal Palace after being forced off against Burnley but his issue is not thought to be a serious one.
