The newspaper Récord has provided financial details of the business surrounding Andrés Ibargüen and his recent move to Santos Laguna, which was by all accounts either a free transfer or for a nominal fee of around $100,000.
There’s no doubt that the player completely underperformed based on the net figures of his dealings, despite being able to contribute 100 games and three trophies to the squad.
In addition to the roughly $4m that América paid Racing Club for the Colombia international in 2018, the club paid the player an annual salary of around $1m.
By all accounts, América have suffered an unrecouped loss of roughly $7m in large part due to the athlete’s attiude and discontent.
Since América and Santos Laguna met on Matchday four last weekend, it’s unlikely that Ibargüen will face his former side until next season. We’ll see if he can return to his former self.
