There will be no Ballon d’Or winner for 2020.

France Football cancelled the award for this season citing a “lack of sufficient fair conditions” across the sport owing to the coronavirus pandemic.

So, who’s going to win the next one when it takes place in 2021?

  1. August 2020 – Champions League winner
  2. July 2021 – Euro 2021 winner, player of the tournament
  3. Summer 2021 – World record transfer

It’s Kylian Mbappé’s year.

My initial thought was Kylian Mbappé, but Kevin de Bruyne will take the award next year.

Manchester City will spend millions this summer and really challenge on all fronts – and De Bruyne will be central to that.

He is everything you want in a midfielder and nobody will match his levels.

There are so many different players to choose from, but I have to go with the man that I thought would take the trophy home this year: Robert Lewandowski.

As much as I can appreciate the Messi and Ronaldo era, I think it’s time for some other players to bask in the Ballon d’Or and all its glory. For me, Lewandowski is more than deserving of that!

The 31-year-old has been fantastic for Bayern with 51 goals in 43 appearances so far this season, you can’t argue with those stats!

Lewandowski would have been a cert for it this year, wouldn’t he?

The Pole somehow improves and looks fitter year after year and there’s no reason why he will let up over the next 18 months.

Angelina has staked his claim perfectly but also feel there will be a case of making amends of him missing out this year, just don’t mention his dancing.

As long as Lionel Messi still laces up a pair of boots and takes to a field, he’ll be the best footballer in the world.

His powers show no sign of declining after topping the goal and assist charts in LaLiga this season.

It will take someone special to wrest it from his grasp.
