Stop the presses, the Premier League title has been decided!
Manchester City have finally been crowned champions of England after one of the least exciting title races in recent memory.
They’ve earned it and they deserve to win the league with five games to spare, it’s been a pleasure to watch them.
After a horrendous 10 or so days, Manchester City gave the response of champions. They dominated in their 3-1 win at Wembley.
In 10 games against the rest of the big six, City have clocked up eight wins. Four of those have come away. There’s no understating their dominance.
Kevin De Bruyne was brilliant against Spurs, the defence was solid and Raheem Sterling was a constant threat. So many of the things that mate City champions were on display.
They may not have won the league against Man Utd but it was at least clinched at Old Trafford.
Burnley’s win over Leicester was their fifth in a row, the first time they’ve managed that in the top flight for half a century.
That leaves them just two points behind Arsenal, who they play on the penultimate weekend.
Having raced into a lead against Leicester, Dyche’s side held on well.
Just a month or so ago a rough patch had seen the Clarets go 11 without a win. They’ve turned it back around and are now on the verge of a European tour.
Arsenal are the only team in England’s top five flights to fail to pick up a single point away from home in 2018. They’re faring better in the Europa League but that’s besides the point.
You can now add Newcastle to the list of prestigious sides Arsenal have lost to away from home in the Premier League in 2018 along with Bournemouth, Swansea, Spurs and Brighton.
Ouch.
A Europa League semi-final against Atlético Madrid is now Arsène Wenger’s only chance to salvage something from the season. Atlético, by the way, have won their last 10 home games without conceding.
Things aren’t much better up the road at Watford.
They’ve won just one away point in 2018 and have failed to score in seven consecutive away games in all competitions.
Yes, seven. Richarlison has gone off the boil and nobody else really has the capacity to inspire.
An impressive early season run means they’re safe this year but big changes are needed in the summer.
Allardyce’s Everton
Boring to watch, semi-decent results, a comfortable yet depressing league position. There is nothing interesting about Sam Allardyce’s Everton.
Everton spent big last summer and felt obliged to sack Ronald Koeman when he couldn’t get results.
Big Sam has managed to pick up more points but the football is even worse and the fans are totally disillusioned.
He needs to be sacked and this rot needs to end before it affects the club’s array of talented young players.
