Ole Gunnar Solskjaer labels VAR as the reason behind Manchester United loss to Aston Villa

Speaking in a post-match interview after Manchester United lost to Aston Villa (h/t Manchester Evening News), Ole Gunnar Solskjaer claimed that VAR allowed an illegitimate goal to stand for the Villans.

Kortney Hause headed home the winner in the 88th minute after losing Edinson Cavani on a set-piece. But according to the Norwegian manager, Ollie Watkins was interfering with David de Gea on the line.

And he claims that the goal should have been ruled out for offside for that very reason. But it was given, and Hause wheeled away to celebrate in front of the exuberant away fans at Old Trafford.

“Decision making on VAR cost us again, unfortunately. The goal is offside, as Hause heads it Watkins is actually touching David so he is impeding with him. I can’t see the consistency anywhere with the VAR and the decision-making.”

The former Cardiff City and Molde manager then revealed that he asked for an explanation behind the decision as the linesman had apparently raised his flag.

“They came out in the corridor and I asked them for an explanation. The linesman he flagged it up with the VAR and definitely the VAR has gone wrong again.”

For United fans, this is the last thing they would want to hear right now after a disappointing defeat at home against a team they were unbeaten against since December 2009 – a run that lasted for 18 consecutive games.

Ole has a host of stars at his disposal and a weak squad cannot be used as an excuse anymore for failure to win at least one trophy this season. The clock may just be ticking for Solskjaer at United.
