With the season having now officially come to an end in La Liga, we at Get Spanish Football News have selected our official Team of the Year for 2024/25.

The XI is made up of players from no fewer than six clubs, with Barcelona, after wrestling back the title from Real Madrid, leading the way with four inclusions.

Below, we provide a breakdown of the line-up, alongside a brief insight into why each player was chosen.

It is also worth noting that just missing out on a place in our XI were the likes of Óscar Mingueza, Jules Koundé, Isco and Álex Baena.

Joan García

The standout goalkeeper in La Liga in 2024/25 came in the form of Espanyol standout Joan García. The 24-year-old left opposing fans stunned time and again over the course of the campaign, courtesy of a string of frankly sensational saves. These efforts proved crucial in keeping Espanyol’s top-flight status intact, with Joan now deservedly in the sights of some of Europe’s biggest clubs ahead of the summer.

Andrei Ratiu

Beating out stiff competition to take the right-back spot in our XI is Rayo Vallecano standout Andrei Ratiu. The Romanian international was a near ever-present in Rayo’s line-up throughout the season, with his efforts on both sides of the ball having been of the highest standard. Ratiu’s explosiveness mean he would not look at all out of place in the defensive ranks of one of Spanish football’s top clubs, another contender to be on the move with a view to next season.

Dani Vivian

Athletic Club stalwart Dani Vivian is first up in the two-man pairing at the heart of our backline. And for altogether good reason. The Spanish international is a source of consistent excellence for Ernesto Valverde’s Athletic, a real leader on the pitch. A haul of four goals this term is also an impressive one for a defender, meaning fans should not be at all surprised if Vivian plays an important role for Spain in their upcoming Nations League schedule.

Iñigo Martínez

One of the real success stories of the La Liga campaign in 2024/25 comes in the form of Iñigo Martínez’s return to prominence. For so long a standout performer in the Basque Country with Athletic Club, his first season at Barcelona saw Iñigo’s abilities at the top level called into serious question. 12 months under the watch of Hansi Flick, though, and the 33-year-old emerged as arguably the best central defender in Spanish football.

Sergi Cardona

Left-back was one of the more difficult calls to make when it comes to La Liga’s standout performer this season. But in the end, we have opted for Villarreal standout Sergi Cardona. The 25-year-old was a near ever-present at the back for the Yellow Submarine in 2024/25, featuring from the off in all but four of the club’s league fixtures. And his efforts on both sides of the ball proved to be of an altogether high standard, stout defending accompanied by a head-turning haul of seven La Liga assists.

Federico Valverde

Kicking our midfield trio into gear comes Mr. Reliable, Federico Valverde. Whilst Real Madrid, as a collective, endured something of a disappointing season this time out, the club’s engine room dynamo hardly missed a step. Valverde on more than one occasion found himself dragging Carlo Ancelotti’s side back into games through sheer will, with his stellar showings when asked to fill in at right-back only further strengthening the Uruguayan’s case for a place in the Team of the Season.

Pedri

Joining Valverde at the base of midfield is another of the season’s most consistent performers, in Pedri. So often overlooked owing to the brilliance of those in the final third at Barcelona, Pedri was nothing short of spectacular in the middle of the park in 2024/25. Dribbling, passing, chance creation, work rate, pressing, tackling and more – the 22-year-old excelled in every aspect of the game, the unsung hero in Barca’s eventual title triumph.

Oihan Sancet

There were a number of contenders to take the attacking midfield spot in our XI, with the likes of Isco and Álex Baena having been taken into strong consideration. In the end, though, Oihan Sancet’s numbers simply proved too much to overlook. The Spanish international was on target to the tune of 15 goals in 29 La Liga appearances this season, enough for a ratio of more than a goal every two games. All of this despite a number of injury problems, and the fact that 10 of his showings came off the bench for Athletic Club.

Lamine Yamal

Was there ever really any doubt as to who would take the right winger spot in the La Liga Team of the Season? Lamine Yamal is fresh off a year which saw the 17-year-old establish himself firmly in the conversation for the best player in world football. His highlight reel for 2024/25 is second to none, with Lamine’s haul of nine goals and 15 assists not doing proper justice to just how much of a difference-maker he was for champions Barcelona over the course of the term.

Raphinha

Turning attentions to the opposite flank, and there was only one real contender to secure this position, too. Raphinha, after all, is fresh off nothing short of a historic season in Barca colours. On his way to strong shouts for the next Ballon d’Or, the Brazilian international took his production in the final third to a whole new level. In the Spanish top-flight alone, Raphinha’s haul of 18 goals and 11 assists make him the only La Liga player to have hit double digits in both categories.

Kylian Mbappé

At one point this season, Kylian Mbappé could not have been further from contention for a Team of the Season berth. To say that the Frenchman went on to turn things around in impressive fashion in his debut campaign in Spain, though, would be putting it lightly. Over the latter weeks of the term in particular, Mbappé was nothing short of unplayable, with a hat-trick in El Clásico the highlight of a run of 10 goals in his final six appearances. This stretch also proved enough to secure for the 26-year-old the Pichichi award, making Mbappé’s name the perfect one to round out our XI.
