Sergio Ramos set an unwanted record on Sunday when he was sent off for the 25th time in his Real Madrid career.
The veteran defender was given his marching orders late on as Los Blancos went down to a shock 2-1 defeat at home to Girona.
It means Ramos has now set a new record in Europe’s top five leagues for red cards so we thought it about time to go back through the archives a rank his sendings-off in order of Sergio Ramos-ness.
In an ill-tempered game that saw three red cards in total, Ramos was sent off in the 55th minute for an elbow on Florent Sinama-Pongolle, having already been yellow carded earlier for a two-footed tackle on the striker. Ouch!
Ramos received a straight red in this pulsating win for a quite blatant step on the chest of Eliseu as the Portuguese defender was laying on the ground. Double ouch!
Having already received a booking for throwing the ball away, Ramos did the exact same thing late on to earn himself a red card. With the group already won, many sceptics believed that the Spaniard deliberately got him self sent off in order to serve a suspension in their next dead-rubber match. Imagine that.
A second red card in the space of just six days for Ramos as he was sent for an early bath for the first time in the Clásico. A brutal challenge on David Villa earned him a yellow before taking out Lionel Messi in the second half for his marching orders.
Perhaps the absolute epitome of Sergio Ramos and his time at Real Madrid. The centre-back received two yellow cards, was sent off, and scored against Rayo – all within the first 15 minutes.
