One of the more anticipated arrivals of the January transfer window was the arrival of Manchester City’s new signing Claudio Echeverri. The young Argentinian playmaker has spent this season on loan with River Plate since being signed by the world champions in January of 2024. But a new report indicates that there may be a longer wait until Echeverri finally arrives at the Etihad.
Simon Bajkowski has reported for Manchester Evening News that Manchester City are set to allow Claudio Echeverri to participate in the upcoming South American Under-20 Championships. Echeverri’s selection in Argentina’s squad for the tournament is yet to be confirmed. But as per Bajkowski’s report that is expected to be a formality. The tournament runs from late January to mid-February. As per Bajkowski’s report, this means Echeverri won’t link up with Manchester City until after his international duties.
Claudio Echeverri’s imminent arrival at Manchester City is an exciting prospect. He has already shown just how prodigious a talent he is during his time at River Plate. Echeverri has also shone for Argentina during his youth international appearances. The youngster will arrive at the Etihad with anticipation high as to what he could achieve. He has also already said goodbye to River Plate ahead of his arrival at Manchester City.
But the wait to see Manchester City’s new signing play for Pep Guardiola’s squad will now be extended. As per Bajkowski’s report, we won’t see Echeverri feature for Manchester City until mid-February. But that is perhaps the best move for Echeverri’s development. If he plays a starring role for Argentina he will arrive at the Etihad full of confidence. How he performs at the tournament will be something to track ahead of his arrival at Manchester City.
