Late Thursday night, after Renato Ibarra was released from jail over after charges of “attempted femicide” and “attempted abortion” were dropped, Club América made it clear that the player will not be welcome back to the club.

The club released a statement which read: “Club América reiterates its absolute daily commitment to participate in eradicating gender-based violence and of promoting real respect for women.

“Given the above, and as has been reported in the media and by the authorities, it has been determined to definitively separate the player from the team.”

While the player has not been released, he has been banished from any and all activities related to the team and América will look to sell Ibarra as soon as possible.

According to journalist Rubén Rodríguez, several clubs from the Northern part of Mexico will be interested in bringing in the Ecuadorian, specifically naming Tigres as a possible destination.

Ibarra joined América from Vitesse in summer 2016 and featured 138 times, contributing 14 goals and 33 assists to help the club win three trophies (Liga MX, Copa MX, Campeón de Campeones).
