Teams of the Tournament, Player of the Tournament, the Golden Boot, the Golden Glove.
They’re all well and good. But what about all those things that lit Euro 2020 up?
Yes Sir, I Can Boogie.
But I need a certain song!
Come on, who didn’t love seeing that little car pop up unexpectedly at the Stadio Olimpico?
Cristiano Ronaldo and Coca-Cola. Not a match made in heaven.
Nicolò Barella’s opener was just the tonic Ciro Immobile needed when he was on the ground in the quarter-final against Belgium.
Spain go 1-0 down to a ridiculous own goal but are 3-1 up with just 10 or so minutes remaining before conceding twice and winning it 5-3 in extra-time.
Switzerland take a shock lead against France, find themselves 3-1 down after an incredible French spell, but come back to force extra-time before winning on penalties to send the world champions home.
All in one incredible evening.
Only one winner.
Own goals at Euros 1960-2016: 9
Own goals at Euro 2020: 10
Absolutely remarkable.
Patrik Schick’s effort against Scotland instantly claimed its place in Euros history.
Poor Pedri.
Had Pedri not scored that, Martin Dúbravka’s own goal against Spain would’ve remained the most shocking in the tournament.
Goran Pandev wasn’t the oldest player at Euro 2020 but he was the oldest player to steal our hearts. The North Macedonia captain has been playing for his country for 20 years, led them out in their first ever tournament, and scored their first ever tournament goal.
Poor Jude Bellingham, who was the youngest player to ever feature at a Euros … for six days. After setting a new record in England’s opener against Croatia, Bellingham was quickly replaced in the record books by Poland’s Kacper Kozlowski, who was 103 days younger.
“Honestly, I love him,” Luke Shaw said of Bukayo Saka.
“I would just love it if he was my child or something, I love him like that and you could ask anyone in the squad and they would say how nice a guy he honestly is.”
We’re sure it’s all love really … but David Alaba was not happy with Marco Arnautović, who lost his cool after scoring in Austria’s opener.
Giorgio Chiellini had SO MUCH FUN during the semi-final coin toss. Jordi Alba did not.
Every tournament has one. That one team everyone falls in love with.
And this summer it was Denmark.
Hungary have just gone ahead against France in Budapest and they speed towards the corner of the pitch. What on earth was going through the mind of the poor reporter sat in the corner as the players charged towards her and her desk? We’ll never know.
