Tottenham picked up the first win of the post-Harry Kane and Ange Postecoglou era by overpowering Manchester United in north London.
Here we break down a captivating evening of action.
Tottenham won convincingly – and it could have been more so.
A Pape Matar Sarr strike and Lisandro Martínez own goal fired them to victory but they also hit the post twice and went agonisingly close on other occasions.
Particularly in the second half, United didn’t get close.
There were many contenders in a white jersey but standing head and shoulders above the rest was Yves Bissouma at the heart of the action.
Brighton have sold several stars recently for big money and he appeared to be a forgotten man but reminded everyone of his undisputed quality with this performance.
He bossed proceedings and was always there when needed – no matter what area of the park and was the star man for the second straight game.
Spurs did win well but United were guilty of some misses at key moments that could have changed the course of the contest.
Antony cracked the post moments after Spurs went in front but the biggest chance came at 0-0 in the first half from Bruno Fernandes.
Picked out onside just yards from goal in so much space, he horribly skewed his header wide.
Spurs have made an unbeaten start to the season and have a very winnable run of fixtures (Bournemouth, Burnley and Sheffield United) coming up before the first derby of the season against Arsenal on September 24.
For United, they were blunt in attack and need new man Rasmus Højlund fit and available as soon as possible because their attacking football has been a concern in both games so far.
Ange Postecoglou: “I made it pretty clear that if I was appointed, this is the football that we’re going to play and we did that.”
Erik ten Hag: “I am not concerned with our attacking play but I am by our scoring. We know this, that is why we’ve signed a striker.”
Spurs are back on the road next weekend, heading to the south coast to take on Bournemouth, while United host Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
