The Premier League fixtures on Saturday provided us with some dramatic action.

Here’s how it all went down.

What happened?

There was a change at the top of the table as Manchester City thumped Luton Town to head back to the summit of the Premier League, while Arsenal and Liverpool are still yet to play this weekend.

Meanwhile, the race for fourth got even hotter as Tottenham missed a chance to get some breathing room after being on the receiving end of a Newcastle pasting at St. James’ Park.

Manchester United fought back from a goal down on two separate occasions at the Vitality Stadium to snatch a point, while Burnley, Brighton, Forest, and Wolves all picked up draws as well.

The only other team to collect three points was Brentford, who eased some of their relegation stress with a comfortable win over Sheffield United.

Player of the Day

Where would Manchester United be without Bruno Fernandes this season? The Portugal star has been a man on a mission, and has almost single-handedly helped keep United in the picture at the back end of the campaign.

Stat of the Day

They said he’s in a crisis, but the stats show that Erling Haaland is doing just fine.

What this means

Any title race movement will be set in stone after Sunday as both Liverpool and Arsenal are yet to play.

In the top-four hunt however, it’s now all level between Aston Villa and Tottenham in the race for the coveted final Champions League place, with Unai Emery’s men only ahead on goal difference.

The relegation battle continues to be nervy. Brentford’s victory saw them break away from the pack, but Luton is only two points behind 16th place Everton, and one point behind 17th place Nottingham Forest.

What they said

Pep Guardiola on standout performer Joško Gvardiol: “He has improved a lot; in some periods he was confused and he lost a lot of balls. We told him the defenders must play the simple things. He got the message and was incredibly good.”

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou on Spurs’ thumping at Newcastle: “Our football wasn’t anywhere near the level it should be.”

What comes next

There is plenty more Premier League action on the docket this weekend as Liverpool host Crystal Palace, West Ham host London counterparts Fulham, and Aston Villa travel to Arsenal on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Chelsea entertain to Everton on Monday.
