Manchester City and Arsenal fans alike were on the edge of their sofas Saturday afternoon as Nottingham Forest looked all but set to hold league leaders Liverpool to a draw, but a 99th minute winner from Darwin Núñez earned a crucial win for Jürgen Klopp’s men.

Despite going a goal behind, Spurs ran out victorious against a new-look Crystal Palace side to reignite their push for the top-four. Meanwhile in West London, the points were shared between Brentford and Chelsea as the pressure continues to mount on Mauricio Pochettino.

Fulham and Newcastle ran out 3-0 winners against Brighton and Wolves respectively, while West Ham downed Everton at Goodison Park.

In the final match of the night, Aston Villa scored late to snatch a gutsy win away to Luton Town.

Player of the day

Ollie Watkins has been in rip-roaring form as of late, and two more goals this weekend saw the England international move to within one goal of Erling Haaland in the Premier League golden boot race.

There has been plenty of talking surrounding Harry Kane’s backup at EURO2024 this summer, but Watkins may just be ending those discussions with each passing week.

Jürgen Klopp continues to prove that he can rely on any member of his squad, no matter their role in the team.

His substitutes are proving that every week.

Liverpool’s late winner ensures they will remain top heading into the next round matches, with a four-point lead over Manchester City and a five-point lead over Arsenal.

Spurs comeback victory means they remain within touching distance of the top-four, now five points behind fourth-place Aston Villa.

At the other end of the table, losses for Everton and Forest mean they remain barely above the drop-zone as Luton continue to show fighting spirit just behind them.

What they said

Mauricio Pochettino on fan criticism: “I am not worried. We need to accept this. You just need to build the relationship through winning games. I won’t ask for it”.

Jürgen Klopp on Liverpool’s dramatic win: “If you asked me 12 days ago if it was possible to win all four [games in that period], I would’ve said no. This win is up there.”

Sean Dyche on Everton defeat: “It is about time we took responsibility and got players scoring. We had so many chances again today and at 1-0 we had the chance to kill the game off and we didn’t do that.”

What comes next?

The action continues on Sunday as Burnley host Bournemouth before what should be a hotly-contested Manchester derby at the Etihad Sunday afternoon.
