Bruno Fernandes insists he will be part of Manchester United’s future as long as the club still want him.

The Portuguese international set up Rasmus Hojlund for his side’s third goal in their 3-2 win over Newcastle United to move level on points with the Magpies.

Kobbie Mainoo had put the Red Devils ahead in the first half before Anthony Gordon’s equaliser but Amad Diallo and then Hojlund struck to secure a much needed victory for boss Erik ten Hag.

Discussing his future in an interview with DAZN Portugal earlier this season, Fernandes said: “Obviously, it doesn’t just depend on me, does it?

“A player always has to want to be here, but at the same time, you have to want him to stay. At the moment, I feel there’s that on both sides.

“I’m not thinking too much about the future, not least because, obviously, this season hasn’t been at the level I’d hoped for, either individually or collectively, so far.

“So, if you want me to be very honest, if I have to think about not continuing in the Premier League, it won’t be until after the Euros because nothing will be able to take my focus away from the FA Cup final and the Euros, as there’s nothing more important than that at the moment.”

And speaking to Sky Sports after the game, before he was interrupted by his manager ten Hag to join the rest of the players in a post-game address to the home crowd, Fernandes said: “I will be (here) as long as, like I said, the club needs to want me.

“I feel that the club wants me to be a part of the future. As I said always, I don’t want to be a player that the club doesn’t want to have.

“If for some reason the club doesn’t want to have me, I will go, but if they want me I will stay.”
