Carlos Corberan has been strongly linked with the job at Leeds United and it should be no surprise, given the remarkable job he’s doing in charge of West Bromwich Albion.

Having worked as an assistant to Marcelo Bielsa, as well as a successful stint in charge of Leeds’ Under-23s, he’s long been touted as a potential Leeds boss.

“Carlos is a good colleague, I have found that,” Bielsa said of Corberan back in 2018. “He is very talented. I listen more to his opinion than I give mine to him.”

The 39-year-old Spaniard left Elland Road following their promotion to the Premier League in 2020 to take the job at Huddersfield. He did a brilliant job to take the Terriers into the play-offs last season, only narrowly losing to Nottingham Forest in the final at Wembley.

He since departed for a short-lived stint in charge of Olympiakos but returned to Championship action in October, taking over a beleaguered West Brom side that were in the relegation zone. The Baggies had won just one of their opening 13 matches under his predecessor Steve Bruce.

Corberan wasted no time in turning around their fortunes. Under his tenure, West Brom have risen to sixth in the Championship table and look a safe bet for the play-offs. They’ve won 10 of his 13 league matches in charge and have gone from one of the worst to one of the best sides in the Championship.

“You can always learn under him,” West Brom striker Daryl Dike told West Brom’s official website.

“Every single training session and every single day he is pushing me to be better. He wants to give you all the tools at his disposal to help you get better as a player.

“He puts so much effort into everything he does, not every manager does that. One thing that is incredible about Carlos is how eager he is to help you.”

Take a look at how the Championship table stacks up since Corberan was appointed back in October to see what a job he’s doing at the Hawthorns.
