Burnley return to action after the September international break on Saturday afternoon, as they make the trip to the Welsh captial to face Cardiff City.

Following their relegation from the Premier League at the end of last season, the Clarets have enjoyed a promising start to life back in the Championship under new boss Vincent Kompany.

With 17 points from their ten league games so far this season, Burnley go into this one fourth in the Championship table, and will be aiming to apply the pressure on the automatic promotion places.

By contrast, Cardiff currently sit 18th in the second-tier standings, just one points clear of the relegation zone, meaning this could represent something of an opportunity for the Clarets to continue their promising recent form.

However, there are still challenges that they will need to negotiate if they are to pick up three more points here.

Has Darko Churlinov ever played for a German club?

Yes No

So with that in mind, we’ve taken a look at two dilemmas Kompany will have to consider as he looks to guide Burnley to victory against Cardiff.

Can he use Charlie Taylor?

While there is no doubt that summer signing Scott Twine remains an absentee for the Clarets heading into this one due to injury, the situation surrounding Charlie Taylor is less clear.

The 29-year-old has impressed in a somewhat unnatural central defensive role so far this season, but may now be something of a doubt, having been forced off during the win over Bristol City in the final game before the international break with something of a knock.

That may leave Kompany with a decision to make over whether to risk a player who has been so reliable this season in the hope of keeping a winning formula when he could make something worse if not 100%, or turn to another one of his numerous centre back options who should also be capable of stepping up here.

How do Cardiff respond to their managerial change?

Cardiff surprised many following the day after their 1-0 defeat to Huddersfield last time out, when they announced the sacking of manager Steve Morison.

The Bluebirds have yet to announce their permanent replacement in the dugout in the Welsh capital, with Mark Hudson taking interim charge of the side for this clash with the Clarets on Saturday afternoon.

It is often the case that a change in manager can provoke something of a reaction and upturn in performance from a squad, so Kompany will have to be on his toes to be well prepared for his side to have to respond to anything like that from Cardiff in the Welsh capital today.
