The ball boys employed for the La Liga meeting between Real Sociedad and Real Madrid were relieved of their duties during Saturday’s Anoeta matchup.
As much was confirmed in referee Juan Martínez Munuera’s post-match report in San Sebastian.
La Real and Los Blancos of course locked horns last night, as part of the opening round of fixtures in Spain’s top-flight on the back of the international break.
When all was said and done, it was the latter who emerged on the right side of the result, owing to a pair of penalties on the part of Vinícius Jr. and Kylian Mbappé.
The spot-kick controversy was not the only drama involving the officials over the course of the 90 minutes, however.
This comes with it having since been revealed that referee Juan Martínez Munuera became so frustrated with the ball boys in attendance at Anoeta, that, minutes from full-time, they were ‘removed’ from pitchside.
As per Marca, citing Martínez Munuera’s report:
“In the 88th minute the ball boys were removed from the vicinity of the pitch due to inappropriate use of the balls.”
It now remains to be seen whether or not Real Sociedad, as a club, are facing up to any form of punishment.
