The club has now released a statement which highlights that Thiago has tested positive for COVID-19.

Thiago is reportedly “in good health and is getting better”. The statement says that Thiago is self-isolating.

LFC first-team doctor, Dr Jim Moxon told the club’s official website: “It is the choice of each individual whether they reveal publicly the outcome of a COVID-19 test.

“We have followed all the protocols to the letter and Thiago is OK. He will be self-isolating now as per the guidelines and hopefully he’ll be back with us soon.”

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

We did find it strange that Thiago’s “injury” was not originally explained.

Normally the club provide a description of the type of injury that a player has suffered, but none of that information was revealed before the Arsenal clash at Anfield.

However, now it all makes sense. As Dr Moxon explained above, it is the individuals choice whether they reveal they have tested positive for COVID-19.

According to journalist David Maddock, as cited by Twitter account LFC Transfer Room, the Spaniard wanted the news released so his absence from the upcoming international duty could be explained.

Maddock added that Thiago will be back for the Merseyside derby on October 17.

We hope that none of Thiago’s teammates have caught the virus, as that would also mean that they would need to self-isolate.

We wish Thiago all the best. His health is far more important than any football match.

From a football point of view, Thiago will be a loss for the time being. As you can see in the footage below, Thiago’s passing range is superb, which us why he will be a miss for the Reds.
