Celtic have set a £1m asking price for striker Johnny Kenny
Celtic have named their asking price for striker Johnny Kenny amid Bolton Wanderers’ interest.
The 22-year-old scored once in 10 appearances for the Scottish giants last season as they secured the Scotish Premiership title, and he looks set to be allowed to leave Parkhead this summer.
Kenny previously enjoyed a successful loan spell with Irish outfit Shamrock Rovers, netting 20 times in 39 outings during the 2024 campaign, before returning to Scotland for the second half of Celtic's 2024-25 season.
Bolton have recently had a bid for the striker rejected, believed to be in the region of £500,000.
Now, according to Alan Nixon via his Patreon, Celtic have outlined their valuation of Kenny at £1 million.
The attacker will be allowed to leave Scotland for this price, as long as Brendan Rodgers can find a suitable replacement.
Sky Sports previously stated a decision on Kenny’s future would be made later in the window, but Bolton could change that with a tempting offer.
Wanderers have already added to their front-line this summer, acquiring former Wrexham marksman Sam Dalby, but they want to add to their options further after selling Aaron Collins to MK Dons.
There could still be the possibility of a loan move for Kenny, with Celtic reportedly keen on commissioning a deal on that basis.
The young forward was bought by Celtic in January 2022 from Sligo Rovers.
A Republic of Ireland youht international, Kenny has made six appearances for his nation’s under-21's outfit.
The past few seasons have been underwhelming for Bolton supporters at the Toughsheet Community Stadium, failing to achieve promotion from League One while less competitive outfits on paper around them have.
Now under Steven Schumacher’s management, the Trotters’ faithful have real reason to feel optimistic about the year ahead.
Acquiring Kenny could turn out to be a masterstroke, with his tender age providing him with ample room to develop into a seriously deadly operator.
That said, Schumacher will need guaranteed goals in the hunt for Championship football next season.
Although the Celtic forward may enjoy huge amounts of potential, that won’t do Bolton a huge deal of good if he can’t help contribute from the off.
Therefore, Schumacher and co must be clear and certain that they believe Kenny can play a crucial part in their success next season and subsequently reap the rewards of his vast potential in the future.
