The January transfer window has closed and it was quite the month.
Here are the five most interesting deals of the window.
If this transfer happened on a computer game you’d probably think it was stupidly unrealistic, but Ramsey took everyone by surprise when he swapped Juventus for Scottish Premiership champions Rangers on deadline day.
The Welsh midfielder needs games and he’s joining a massive club where he’ll be challenging for silverware. Fair play.
Another player who swapped the subs bench for an interesting project in January was Coutinho, who returned to the Premier League to link-up with former Liverpool team-mate Steven Gerrard at Villa Park.
A goal and an assist off the bench on his debut was the perfect way for the Brazilian to start getting his career back on track.
As expected, newly minted Newcastle splashed the cash in January but it was a very solid transfer window in which they strengthened in key areas and look reinforced for a relegation battle.
Their most interesting signing was undoubtedly Guimarães, who has been one of the best players in France this season and will add some much-needed quality to the Magpies midfield engine room.
The biggest deal of the January window saw Dušan Vlahović swapping Fiorentina for Juventus and what a signing the Serbian striker could prove to be.
But the Bianconeri also pulled off a huge coup when they signed Zakaria from Borussia Mönchengladbach for just €8m.
Not only is that a bargain for one of the best holding midfielders in Europe, the 25-year-old is also exactly the sort of player the Bianconeri have been crying out for.
Liverpool’s forward line was already the envy of most of Europe and now it is even more fearsome with the arrival of Luis Díaz from Porto.
The Colombian winger has all the attributes to be a star at Anfield and a front three of Díaz, Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah could terrorise defences in the Premier League and in Europe.
And in today’s market, €45m for a player with his potential seems more than reasonable.
