Augusta and green jackets, New Zealand’s rugby union giants and black, test cricket and all-white.
Some sports, some teams, are so synonymous with a certain colour that there near passing in your eye-line immediately evokes memories of yore.
Think blue and red, think Barcelona.
The Catalan giants have had some classics down the years, but which is their best ever kit?
Let’s find out.
Perfect in its simplicity. The v-neck collar adds a nice extra touch, with the centralised club badge and Nike swoosh.
We’re not sure what Xavi’s so upset about though.
Another classic from the Barcelona cannon. In fact, this kit was so good that they had it for almost a decade.
It wasn’t a particularly successful period in the club’s history – despite signing Diego Maradona in 1982 for a then-world record fee.
But, my god, what a delightful kit.
Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona side are rightly lauded, but ask some people – i.e, me – and they will say that this team were actually the better one to watch.
Here they are lifting the Champions League trophy in Berlin having battered Juventus in the final, all while wearing one of their best kits ever.
Classic blue and red stripes, but it’s the collar that makes this shirt an all-timer.
Let’s just ignore the gauche sponsor.
A special kit for a very special birthday.
They year 1999 saw Barcelona celebrate their 100th birthday and to mark the occasion Nike designed this shirt, reminiscent of their first ever shirt at the turn of the 20th century.
Lovely stuff.
If you don’t think this is Barcelona’s best ever home kit, then you need your head checked.
