The 2024 holiday wish list for Gotham FC

Article image:The 2024 holiday wish list for Gotham FC

NJ/NY Gotham FC had a great 2024 season. They did not win a trophy as they did in 2023 when they won the NWSL Championship, but they did finish in third place for the first time. Plus, they had the most points in a season and broke other records too.

It was also a year where the team was full of stars, from Ann-Katrin Berger, Rose Lavelle, Emily Sonnett, Lynn Williams, and more. Multiple USWNT players were a part of the club and some won the gold medal at the Paris Olympics.

Now, Gotham FC will focus on 2025. Since it is the holiday season, this is the time for celebrations but also the time to make wishes. Some wishes can be for Gotham FC in the upcoming year.

So, here are some wishes for Gotham FC in 2025.

Gotham FC's 2024 holiday wishes

1. The first wish is for Gotham FC to finish the 2025 season in first place. Finishing in third was incredible this year, but now the team must aim for more success. They have not won the NWSL Shield yet, so that should be a goal in the upcoming campaign.

2. An important wish is for Gotham to beat the Washington Spirit. Yes, they won the game in the NWSL x Liga MX Femenil Summer Cup. However, they were swept by the Spirit in the regular season and lost in the semifinals of the playoffs via a penalty kick shootout. Washington has the NJ/NY team's number, so hopefully that will change next season.

3. One of the easier wishes to make is for Midge Purce to return to Gotham FC on a new contract. Since Lynn Williams was traded to Seattle Reign FC, the return of Purce would be like a new signing. The winger missed most of the 2024 season, so in a way, she would be like Williams' replacement. Moreover, she is loved by the fans. Her talent and personality are reasons to do everything to bring her back.

4. The fourth wish is for more fans to attend matches. Understandably, it can be difficult to go in person, especially if supporters live far from the stadium. However, with the stars on the team, more people should be in the stands. Yes, the club increased their attendance levels this past season, but more must be done to increase the numbers.

5. Another wish is for Juan Carlos Amorós to sign a contract extension. The head coach has done wonders with Gotham and is in the final year of his contract. The Bats should act now before someone else comes calling.

6. The final wish is for the Bats to score more goals. They increased the goals per game as the season progressed, but for too long the ladies only scored one or two per match. With their defense, an increase in goals can help them move up the standings in 2025. Gotham FC could be just as threatening as the Orlando Pride, who won the NWSL Shield and were the NWSL Champions last season.
