Three years ago, Germany’s Lena Oberdorf enjoyed a breakthrough tournament and was named the best young player of Euro 2022.

This year’s tournament features a crop of young faces on the international scene. All of which will be bursting with enthusiasm as they look to make their mark on Euro 2025.

Below, we name the top 10 young players to watch out for at Women’s Euro 2025. Just missing out on the list is England’s Michelle Agyemang, Germany’s Franziska Kett and Poland defender Emilia Szymczak.

The 10 young players to watch out for at Women’s Euro 2025

Aggie Beever-Jones (England, 21-year-old Chelsea forward)

Chelsea forward Aggie Beever-Jones could have a breakthrough tournament for England.

She has become an important player for her club, scoring 13 goals in each of the past two seasons. Beever-Jones played a key role as the Blues completed a domestic treble.

The 21-year-old, who has 10 caps for England, has found her shooting boots for the Lionesses at the right time.

She scored her first international goal against Belgium in April, before scoring her first senior hat-trick in a Nations League clash against Portugal last month.

Beever-Jones has exceptional movement and ability to exploit defensive gaps. Her relentless energy makes her a constant threat and could be a contender to win the young player of the tournament award.

Esmee Brugts (Netherlands, 21-year-old Barcelona defender)

If the Netherlands are to recreate their glory from Euro 2017, Esmee Brugts will likely play a big part.

The Barcelona star’s explosive pace and thunderous right foot have delivered 10+ goal contributions in each of the last two seasons for the Spanish side.

England will have to watch out for Brugts, who is an excellent ball carrier, averaging 3.4 progressive carries per 90 minutes this season.

A natural winger, Brugts has recently started as left-back for both club and country.

However, she likes to get forward, and her overlapping runs will be something opposing teams must be wary of this summer.

Grace Clinton (England, 22-year-old Manchester United midfielder)

Grace Clinton has enjoyed a meteoric rise and has been nominated for the PFA Young Player of the Year award for the second year running – after winning the prize in 2024.

The 22-year-old has scored three goals in 10 appearances for the Lionesses. She made her international debut off the bench in a 7-2 win over Austria in February 2024, scoring her first goal in the process.

Clinton brings versatility and composure to England’s midfield. She also poses a goal threat after netting eight goals in 21 WSL appearances this past season.

Former England captain Steph Houghton described Clinton as a player who can “defend and be a presence in the box”.

Carrie Jones (Wales, 21-year-old IFK Norrkopring midfielder)

Wales will make history by competing at their first ever Women’s Euros this summer – the first time they have competed at a major tournament.

Carrie Jones might only be 21-years-old, but she is already well-established within the squad.

The midfielder made her senior international debut aged 15 years and 359 days in August 2019.

She spent four years in the WSL with Manchester United, Leicester City and Bristol City, before making the unique move to Swedish side IFK Norrkopring in the summer of 2024.

Jones is a versatile player who can play in midfield, on the left flank, or even up-front. Her role will be key as Wales take on a tough Group D featuring England, the Netherlands, and France.

Wieke Kaptein (Netherlands, 19-year-old Chelsea midfielder)

At just 19, Wieke Kaptein has already become an integral part of the Chelsea squad, making 33 appearances in their domestic treble-winning season.

She has been nominated for the PFA Young Player of the Year award and appears to have a big future ahead.

Her work rate and quality out of possession has been praised by her Chelsea manager Sonia Bompastor. Her boundless energy means England and Wales midfielders will have to think quickly when facing the Netherlands in Group D.

She has already earned 20 caps for the Netherlands and is expected to anchor their midfield for years to come.

If the Dutch side can survive a difficult group and go deep in the tournament, Kaptein could be a strong contender for Young Player of the Tournament.

Vicky Lopez (Spain, 18-year-old Barcelona midfielder)

Vicky Lopez is the latest gem from Barcelona’s academy and was named the 2024 Golden Girl winner.

The 18-year-old, who can play as an attacking midfielder or winger, is coming off her best season yet.

She scored eight goals in 20 Liga F appearances for Barcelona. She also netted her first two goals for Spain in a friendly against South Korea in November.

Lopez has drawn comparisons to Spain and Barcelona teammate Aitana Bonmati, thanks to her technical abilities.

She dazzled for Spain in their U20 World Cup win in 2022, where she picked up the Golden Ball award. Three years later, she’ll hope to make a similar impact at this summer’s Euros

Salma Paralluelo (Spain, 21-year-old Barcelona forward)

Salma Paralluelo may be the favourite to win the Young Player of the Tournament award at Women’s Euro 2025.

She already has an incredible resume at just 21, having started five of Spain’s seven matches during their 2023 World Cup triumph.

Paralluelo scored in both the quarter-finals and semi-finals, earning the Young Player of the Tournament prize.

Since then she has finished third in the Ballon d’Or standings for the past two years. Paralluelo is a big goal-threat, netting 15 goals in 28 appearances for Barcelona this season. For Spain, she has scored 14 goals in 35 outings.

According to the best UK betting sites, Spain are favourites to win the tournament. If they manage to win their first Euros then Paralluelo will play a big part.

Alice Sombath (France, 21-year-old Lyon centre-back)

Alice Sombath could be the player to fill the void left by the omission of Wendie Renard for France at this summer’s Euros.

The 21-year-old defender, is comfortable at right-back or centre-back. She has seized her chances for both France and Lyon in recent months.

Sombath, who made her international debut in November, was paired alongside new captain Griedge Mbock in France’s 4-0 win over Switzerland in May.

She also produced a standout performance for Lyon in the Champions League semi-final first-leg against Arsenal. Chosen ahead of Renard, she impressed despite the Gunners ultimately reaching the final.

Former Lyon manager Joe Montemurro called her a “special player,” and her composure on the ball will bolster France’s defence this summer.

Sydney Schertenleib (Switzerland, 18-year-old Barcelona midfielder)

As the host nation’s rising star, Sydney Schertenleib carries Switzerland’s attacking hopes at Women’s Euro 2025.

Sydney Schertenleib is the fourth Barcelona player on this list and registered four goal contributions in 2024-25. However, in a squad packed with talent, she has struggled to break into the starting XI.

Nonetheless, her attacking qualities stands out. Her ability to cover the pitch and receive 6.3 progressive passes per 90 minutes showcases her intelligent movement and versatility.

Her 6.1 shot creating actions per 90 minutes is also among the best in Liga F during the 2024-25 season.

Switzerland are winless in their last six games but Schertenleib’s energy could be a game-changer for the hosts.

Ellen Wangerheim (Sweden, 21-year-old Hammarby striker)

Ellen Wangerheim looks set to be Sweden’s next attacking sensation and is the last player on our list of young players to watch at Euro 2025.

The 21-year-old Hammarby striker has scored 10 goals in 10 league games in 2025. Her movement, pace and ability to finish has led to comparisons to Arsenal’s Stina Blackstenius.

She also possesses a strong aerial presence which will offer a different threat for Sweden at this summer’s tournament.

Wangerheim is reportedly being monitored by WSL sides Arsenal, Chelsea and Man City. A strong Euro 2025 showing could lead to a major transfer for the promising forward.
