It’s the burning question we ask ourselves every time we sit down to watch a game. Why aren’t nutmegs worth more?
Thanks to fbref.com and their use of Stats Bomb data, we can bring you the names you’ve been looking for. Who are Europe’s nutmeg kings?
Lionel Messi leads LaLiga with seven but just misses out on the top 10 from across the continent.
Bastian Oczipka (Schalke), Jérôme Roussilon (Wolfsburg), Jadon Sancho (Dortmund)
Germany is clearly nutmeg central! It’s little surprise to see Jadon Sancho’s name here but the fact he’s joined by two left-backs does raise an eyebrow.
Jeremie Boga (Sassuolo), Papu Gómez (Atalanta)
The inclusion of Gómez should surprise nobody, his feet are magical.
An ex-Chelsea academy player, it’s nice to see Boga finding his feet, and the space between his opponents’.
Raphinha (Rennes)
This list wouldn’t be complete without a Brazilian, would it?
Another Bundesliga left-back! What are they feeding them? Davies is the only player in Germany’s top flight with more nutmegs than Jadon Sancho this season.
Speaking of young English talents, they clearly have a thing for this. Rashford’s 10 nutmegs have helped make Manchester United the team with the most nutmegs (32) in European football so far this season.
So close to top spot! Jota has the most in the Premier League and more than a third of Wolves’ nutmegs so far this season.
And that’s after, strangely, pulling off just two in 2018/19.
Fulgini has one goal, one assist, one yellow card and one red card this season. Plus 12 nutmegs. As you do.
A nutmeg every 132 minutes in Ligue 1 this season. You LOVE to see it.
